Sock Kits from Six and Seven Fibers

May 06, 2020

This week we're going to showcase some projects for feet!

Six and Seven Fiber creates a special monthly colorway just for socks that comes with a coordinating mini skein for contrasting toes and cuff.  The base we chose is Clover, which is a blend of corriedale wool and nylon.  It knits up into beautiful socks.  Not a sock knitter?  This could also be used for a shawl or cowl with an added contrasting color.

This colorway, Stargazer,  is a beautiful, hand dyed watercolor of blues with subtle swipes of lilac and speckles of gold and red.  These are truly one-of-a-kind works of art!

If you're looking for a sock pattern, we just posted our store pattern for a basic ribbed sock with a fleegle heel on Ravelry for easy download!

Our Virtual Knitting Community

March 16, 2020

One of the biggest roles an LYS fills is providing a community.  While that is usually an in-person one, our unprecedented times are calling for a virtual one...so here goes.

All of us at Nitro Knitters are going to extend that community to social media and share our creative endeavors while trying to do our part to slow the spread.  We, like most of you, do more than knit or crochet.  We sew, bake, create artwork, and have cute pets.  If you need some distraction and want to look at something other than news on your phone, follow the hashtag #nitroknitterscommunity.  And please share what you're doing with us!  Tag anyone who could use a knitting community right now.  You can even set up notifications for when certain hashtags are used or people have posted.

For those of you who aren't on social media, I will keep this blog up-to-date as well.

If you want to email, you can reach us at nitroknitters@gmail.com

Stay safe, and we will all get through this together.

Self-Striping Sock Yarn from Fibrelya

September 14, 2018

We were very excited to find this hand dyed gem from Fibrelya in Québec.  This sock kit is so cleverly packaged, already wound into two balls with the starting ends wound around a tag so that both socks start at exactly the same place in the color sequence.  Then the yarn is wrapped around the two balls to showcase the color stripes so you know in what order they will knit in.

Fibrelya is a family business, and what gives them uniqueness is that the man does the dyeing, so he looks at colors differently.  Their goal is to give customers interesting colors and something different.  We think they've done a good job of it!  These kits are available on our website.

I thought I would share the beautiful blankets knit out of Berroco's Ultra Wool.  It's worsted weight 100% Superwash wool.  The purple blanket is Pleione from Lucy Hague.  It is all pieced and grafted together and is about a lap blanket size.  The blue/grey blankets is Bairn from Brooklyn Tweed and it's a full-size blanket.
